WOW! You Must Have a Good Camera

Thanks to Jay Ryser for posting this good article.…

Don’t you get annoyed at least a bit when you show people a photo and the first thing they ask you is ‘what camera/equipment did you use?’? I put a few of mine as a desktop background at work (I work in a grey office, far from the window, and the view outside is of a shopping centre, so I put a few bright nature ones) – people assume they are stock and ask where I got them from; I tell them they’re mine, and they ask ‘what camera do you have’ – I show them my compact and their eyes pop out and start studying the camera :-) Not a single one asked me where I got them (a canal at the end of the office car park, a lunchtime walk by the Thames), or when (waiting for the train in the morning or passing by the port on holidays).

And then you

One year ago...

…I was dithering over what user name I should choose for registration on this site. Having settled on that and taken the plunge, I uploaded a few pictures and within minutes I had my first comment! A year later, my work has been viewed more than 25000 times, almost 3000 comments have appeared on my work pages, more than 350 times someone liked one of my pictures enough to add it to their favourites, I have added around 950 comments of my own to forums and other people’s work, and even host or co-host 4 groups. Three of my photos made the RedBubble Home Page, and one other has been Featured by RedBubble.…

Now, to a lot of you these are nowhere near impressive numbers, but they are to me. A year ago I didn’t think I’d get 25 views, my photos being just small drops in the digital ocean (e

My Featured Work

I joined Red Bubble to verify my theory that my family and friends are kind to me when they say they like my work – I’m happy to report that complete strangers seem to also like my work :-) Enough to vote for it challenges (see my Top Ten list – these two lists used to be on my profile page, but it got too cluttered (yay! ), and some hosts have been kind enough to feature my work in their group – many thanks, the feature banners on my work always takes me by surprise! (most recent such surprise was on a couple of works which, having received not much interest for months, I took into hiding for a few more months; a few days ago I made them visible again, and have received not only comments and been favourited, but one also received a feature!)…

My Top Tens

…well, at least those I kept a record of and whose record hasn’t been lost due to profile description box length restriction (it’s not unlimited, you know… if you keep adding at the top, it falls out at the bottom).…

So here they are, since February 2010 – with my thanks to those who voted for my pictures in any challenge, as well as to all those who visit my portfolio and leave me feedback – much appreciated! My list of featured works is here. These two lists used to be on my profile page, but it got too cluttered (yay! :-)).

Hi All,…

My first Journal entry is not about me, but about something I discovered (iMacros) thanks to a happy combination of events: I sent a rather desperate plea to the help people at RB, and I got a very prompt reply from Jo, directing me to a very new post in the Friends of RB forum – check it out. I’m guessing DR will be swamped pretty quickly with requests, though… Anyway, I decided to try this new thing for myself, and here are the steps that worked for me – so well, in fact, that I decided to put this in a Journal entry, hoping that more hosts could get their life back:

  1. If you don’t have Firefox yet, install it (mozilla.com)
  2. While in Firefox, search on the Mozilla site for ‘*iMacro*’ – you get only one result, install the add-on, restart Firefox.
