Artist's Description

Are mermaids just a passing fad? Some who are familiar with the trend would disagree. From the Weeki Wachee Mermaid show that has been around for decades to movies such as “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid” that came to theaters in 1947, “Splash” in the 1980’s and most recently “The Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides” mermaids have always captivated our imagination.
Now there are mermaid conventions where people of the “mer culture” can attend and show off their elaborate tails and costumes to professional mermaids for hire to liven up a child’s birthday party or attend special events.
If you were to ask my friend Evangeline the Mermaid as to why she does it, her response would be, " Imagination is starting to become a thing in the past. Little boys and girls no longer pretend to be fairies and pirates. It’s no longer ‘Princess Dress Up’ but ‘Mommy Dress Up’ with a cell phone high heels and lipstick, and thats where us mermaids come in. Putting child back into childhood. We’re here to save imagination, and to bring back the fantasy world."
I would like to give special thanks to my mermaid friend who participated in helping me with this calendar;
Oceana, Mermaid of the Canadian Pacific
Mermaid Victoria
Mermaid Natalie of the Pacific
Evangeline the Mermaid
and last but not least Mermaid Iona
