Artist's Description

The second of a short series of gannet photographs.

Gannets are easy to recognize even at vast distances, partly because they are so large (6’ wing-span and 3’ beak to tail) but mainly because they shine a brilliant white that is quite unlike any other sea-bird (at least around the UK waters).

This series of shots were taken from the Seabirds and Seals boat trip as we headed to and from the island of Noss (just off the east coast of Shetland) and where there is one of the largest gannet colonies in the country.

Thanks for looking
Richard
