Electronically Yours (but this isn't a poem, alright?)

I suffer the centuries! I realize we dont wear bustles or bonnets anymore, but does that truly mean that what was once private is now plain to the world?

You tell a woman you want her on CraigsList. The missing connection is concrete, because everyone else knows it but her. The electronic want ads of want. And I dont think it works.

Whatever happened to passionate letters, typed slowly and deliberately, or, hell, handwritten carefully, thoughfully? What happened to taking the time? Finding ways to deliver it, sneak it, stuck to windshields or slipped into mail boxes. Why are we not as clever as we used to be?

The Wanted come in all sizes of mortal lonesome looking. You know the pick of the bunch is not here. You know damn well what we call them. We aren’t careful anymore.

You tell a woman you want her on the internet along with people looking for used televisions and plumbers, for everyone else to sit back with popcorn and watch. A want ad that everyone can think is about them. Reply with your favorite color to weed out SPAM.

“Why is no one looking for me?” they ask in raving desperate posts. The people using it to look aren’t the ones you want looking…for you. They are too often swigging gallons of generic brand citric acid, overly excited and logged in until four in the morning. They aren’t truly looking….they are simply fake emotions they dont know how to truly feel. If sex came to them in the form of a warm body they would look for the keyboard on the stomach. Why are we not as human as we used to be?

GIVE ME THE LOST IDEA OF ROMANCE.
Style it carefully, cleverness, private. Tell me for my eyes only. A mission of hope planned out with loving imperfection, of loving haste. Sealed with Ralph Lauren cologne and with a promise of your kiss in a mutually agreed upon site that may or may not be on the top floor of the museum overlooking the lake on the rainiest day of the summer.

I’d go anywhere for you.
Yours and not electronically.
