SANTA'S BIG QUESTION

“Excuse me, sir”, said the baby with a smile,
“Please could you stay and talk with me a while?”,
Santa turned around with a look of surprise,
To find a wee laddie with pretty blue eyes.

“What may I tell you?”, Santa Claus asked,
“I’ve the time to spare, your visit is my last”
The boy asked Santa, in words so clear,
“Tell me who you are and why you are here!”

“My name is Santa Claus, I visit girls and boys,
Rewarding those who’re good by bringing new toys,
Though the answer to your question, why am I here,
The clue is in a story, we hear this time of year”.

“Allow me to think, so that I may tell it right,
Two thousand years ago, a vision came in sight,
A shining star was followed by three wise men,
It led them to a stable in the town of Bethlehem”.

“Fuelled by curiosity, they entered one by one,
Bearing witness to the birth of The Holy Son,
Lying in a manger, resting His sweet head,
Little baby Jesus, sent to free us of our dread”.

Santa bid a fond farewell as he picked up his sack,
Pleased by his response, the wee boy smiled back,
The little one had asked “What was Santa doing here?”,
To celebrate the birth of Christ, and offer festive cheer…
