Pain

The image in the mirror

Looks at me

And shakes her head and laughs

My life I’ve made my own

Only to see her laugh

Grief stalks me and horrors

Lurk behind each moment of happiness

I watch her smile knowing what is behind it.

The sadness and sorrow that’s more than skin deep

I thought love had found me

Yet now I know only pain is here to hold me

I now understand a saying I’ve heard

“When love cast me out, it was pain that took pity one me”

last line taken from the writer Jacqueline Carey.
“When love cast me out, it was pain that took pity one me”
is not my own words
