THE MIRROR VIEW.

She thought the mirror
Only gave her half
The picture, only
Gave her what she thought
It ought to bring her,

The beauty that lay
There, the smile, the eyes,
The way her hair was,
The tilt of her head,
The set of her chin;

It never gave her
What lay deep within,
The inner beauty,
The inward looking
Eyes, the frozen smile

Of fearing the aged,
The shaking head of
Disbelief, the dark
Greying hair that would
Be there, and the well

Worn stare of knowing
That her old age was
Creeping inch by inch
Just outside her view
And the mirrors reach.

THE MIRROR VIEW.
