I must have taken 100 shots of these fellows firing the canons and finally got one that really showed the fire!! Oh, and by the way, my new hearing aids will be arriving soon!! LOL!!
Now it appears these fellows are firing in the wrong direction for the battle, but what I learned at the reenactment was that Hollywood has it all wrong. The soldiers did not do a mad dash screaming and yelling straight into the opposing soldiers. Because their muskets were so inaccurate, the troops fought in small units and tried to stay at least 30 feet away from the opposing soldiers….at least for a while. At 30 feet and closer the muskets became much more accurate and the bayonets were extremely accurate, so survival rate dropped pretty dramatically. So while the skirmishes continue to their right, this Union canon is firing toward the Confederate canons.
