Mirror, mirror on the wall

Who is the fairest of them all?

What a load of crap!
Consider…

Mirror, mirror on the wall
what level of stress will maul
my sensibilities
to the breaking point?

I am here my Lord
each day questioning if you are bored
with the usual activities of war, crime and sudden injury.

To ask “why me”
has become such a redundancy
that one or another acquaintance
commonly shakes his head while shrugging shoulders;
speechless truly. Thankfully.

And I nod my own little head
weakly, with the continual assumption of dread.
On the move and soon looming
another tragedy,
another liability,
another anxiety …
and again the lament of “why me” will fall on ears
pleading for selective impairment.

Mirror, mirror on the wall …
What level of stress might end this all?
What would be proof
that endurance is a deep well
and not a direct route to Hell

But rather – if not a road to Heaven
perhaps a link,
a smaller reward and eventually
a path to deserved recovery.
Oh, the sweet security
of feeling relief
knowing that He has moved on
to His next gig.
