Artist's Description

One of my favorite subjects, my Dad’s 1st haying truck. We used to pile hay 8 bails high with the backend rounded out so much that the top bail was off the truck body. Then we tied it all on with huge ropes and Dad and I tightened the puli blocks on the top. Sometimes we’d hit the lower power lines as we passed but we never took any of them out. Once a cop stopped us and told us never to come through his town again. I guess we hit too many of his power lines. We also hit the underside of a low interstate bridge once. What a mess!!!! Hay went everywhere!!!! Didn’t hurt the bridge any, nor the truck!!!! Hahaha!!!! As a child, 10 or so, I used to love to ride on the front of the truck sitting on the head lights. Can’t do that now…. We lived in a different time zone then. I miss it!!!! Everything seemed like it was possible. I’m sad for the kids of today. They will never know what I took for granted as a kid!!!! I dedicate this to memories of the good old days!!! May the young of today, when they are old, have the same nostalgic pleasure looking back as I do now.
