Eaters

Glassy screen scraped frosty with the marks of uncouth strangers
In the dark dawning of the silent city brooding over clouded waters
Grey and unfocused in their troubled passage down the cob-webbed channel of dreams
Suddenly is pierced by the sound of iron screaming on rock, underlined by the low roar
That is soon passed and dissipates into an eerie echoing of memory in numb ears.
The shattered glass that lines the streets like crop circles from ruined lamps
No longer necessary to the blind eyes which rove barren stone and inky shadows
For the tell-tale imprints that come with a soul, a life,
The endless search up and down, up and down, up and down, once animated places
Now shut down into listless high-rise of metal robots,
Rows and rows of eternal weather beaten monuments to a past
Eaten and left behind.
