Artist's Description

I like this photo because …

May to July 2003 – In May 2003, while I posed on the dunes above the mouth of Bream Creek, which empties into Marion Bay, the wreck of the Zephyr clearly showed in the background. In 2005, scientists came to document it, measure it, research it, and then put the results into a neat document – here – http://www.flinders.edu.au/ehl/fms/archaeology_... -

At the time, neither the photographer, nor the ‘model’ had even an inkling as to what the jagged pieces of wood were, although, at closer inspection, they showed bolts and joins, and we guessed that whatever it was, had once belonged to a boat of sorts. Earlier rough weather washed away the sand, and revealed the wreck. We took photos in May and in July.

Pentax SLR, 135 film, probably 50mm lens; photo scanned on Canon Pixma MP630 scanner; cross-hatch filter applied in Photoshop 5.5, then retouched in Aperture and Corel Painter on iMac.
