I just had to update this vintage trader card when I saw it…
It reminds me of what is happening in my life just now…
It all began on Mother’s Day this year…. Right after I had shared brunch with my daughter and her guy and my husband, we returned home only to find a baby kitten on my doorstep. It’s eyes were still not open, just a tiny little slit. I knew it had to be newborn and as soon as I glanced further into the bushes I spied its mom.
By this time, my daughter in her excited state had already picked up the kitten. So I told her we must leave it to the mom so it could be better nourished. My daughter was upset and felt surely the kitten would not be safe outside and begged me to take care of the kitten she was afraid that if we did not somehow contain the kitten until the mother’s return, that it might wander into the street, or become lost from its mother…so I agreed to bring a box out with a towel in it and some cat food and water for the mother (at this point the mother had become afraid and ran away).
After having made the kitten a comfortable bed in a box large enough for the mother, I promised my daughter to make sure to keep an eye on the baby and not let it perish. I already had 4 cats of my own and had recently agreed with another friend of mine to take in a ‘rescue’ kitten that he had found wandering around at his workplace (also with no mother and eyes not yet fully open.. Well that was the day I was scheduled to pick up the other rescue kitten who was now old enough to be taken from a surrogate mother we had found, (a mutual friend of ours had a nursing cat).
By the end of the evening the baby kitten was gone and so was all the food from my porch. So I thought…all is well mother kitty came and got her baby.
Weeks went by and then while I was out of town visiting my sister for 2 weeks, my husband sent pictures of 3 little kittens on our doorstep… that had been abandoned and would cry to him as he left for work and as he cam home from work. So he began to feed the kittens and named them after The 3 Stooges because how silly he thought they were to greet him everyday.
Well you can probably guess the rest of the story….Yes I did take in the ‘3 stooges’ all of them are male, and their names…Larry Moe and Curly!!
They look almost identical to the ones in this piece …one is black and white with a stubby little tail (Manx) one is calico and one is peach yellow and white!
What fun huh!!…but boy do I have my hands full!
oh and yes I do have 2 dogs as well…so the dog being curious is also a real part of the story too!!
