Artist's Description

Règne de la nuit
Reign of the night

Gargoyles stand guard, warding off unwanted spirits and other creatures. It was believed that some came alive at night protecting people when they were most vulnerable. Better still, the ones with wings could fly and protect the village as well as the church. And then they return to their places when the sun came up. For those who believed in evil spirits, gargoyles were powerful spirits in the service of the church and thus the faithful had no need to fear any evil spirit and could even laugh at it with impunity.

I had spent my summer off and on working on the background, It had started out to be a fancy balcony. But when I seen the stunning pose of Aegean-prince I knew it had to be used for a Gargoyle. So I’ve spent the last two weeks painting the marble wall and my gargoyles. I hope you like it.

*Credit for pose used for reference is Aegean-prince. http://aegean-prince.deviantart.com/
And reference for the stone gargoyles are from Cathrine Langwagen. http://castock.deviantart.com/
