Transform Me Oh God
Poem by me.

On the wings of a butterfly
Let my words be transformed

My sins silenced

Worldliness evaporated

Whispers erased

With each flutter may my soul be cleansed
Renew me oh God
To shine with Your Spirit!

A range of graded graphite pencils, coloured pencils and a touch of white paint to highlight the eyes. Rendered on sketch paper.

The Language of Flowers
The language of flowers developed during the highly conservative period of the Victorian era. The Victorians were strongly restricted by the rules of etiquette when it was considered totally inappropriate to express feelings of love or affection. The ‘Language of Flowers’ therefore evolved when a message was assigned to a specific flower such as the Narcissus. A lover could then send flowers which conveyed a hidden romantic meaning.

The flowers in my artwork are Narcissus flowers and are my birth month flower.
Narcissus means: respect, modesty and faithfulness.

The Hidden message of the Narcissus:
You’re the Only One. (This hidden message I would attribute to my God whom I often buy flowers for and bring into my home as a thank you to all that God continues to do in my life).

It would seem that I do things on such a subconscious level that I remain in awe of God’s ways. I did this piece as a challenge entry in the group Faces and Florals. I didn’t know about my flower and yet everything about it speaks of my walk of faith with God.

I chose the photo reference of myself for no particular reason and yet, there again, the butterfly which silences my words is also a wonderful way of depicting the ‘silent’ language used to show love through flowers.

Original photo used for reference. Self portrait.
