I’ve always loved drawing and writing, maybe due to being an only child in a very quiet village, thus spending much of my time by myself, drawing and writing stories in my bedroom. I had intended to go to art college when I left school, but as I awaited the results of my GCE’s I saw an advert ‘join the Navy and see the world’…. so I did!

Many years later, having had only a couple of opportunities to work in art and design in the RN and later as an art technician in a senior school, I gave up my stressful job in adult education and decided to do what I loved most.

It took two years for me to come to terms with being called’an artist and illustrator’ but when people ask you to do artwork for them because they love what you do – and even pay you for it, you have to accept that maybe you can ‘draw a bit’.

Most of my art is created using an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. It all came about quite accidentally when I downloaded the Procreate app and tried drawing the local beach huts from a photo I had taken. Amazingly, that drawing has been my most successful, and has been bought and sent to people all around the world.

I love doodles, I find them quick and amusing, but I have to have a reason to draw them. Nearly all my doodles have a story attached. My first illustrations were of my blog posts. Now I draw quirky characters for HMS Doodle, on Royal Navy souvenir shop Forever Jack as well as drawings of places in Northumberland, UK and private commissions.

I love drawing things that make a sad face smile or invoke a happy memory. My art comes from the heart and that makes every single piece special.
