Artist Statement:
I have worlds inside my skull.
I consider myself a spiritual punk.

I am a student of myth and find truth in the stories of many cultures. I look for light in the darkness and enjoy exploring the relationship of positive and negative space. I am always changing mediums.

I have lived in Alaska, Florida, South Carolina, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Georgia and seek the beauty in every landscape.

and now the bio…..

As a child, Suzi taught herself to draw in dreams and attempted formal artistic training in college but preferred to learn “the hard way.” Her countless handmade “baubles, doodads, puppets and fairies” financed her travels across the country until she landed in Haines, Alaska, and began painting in earnest. After ten years living in an off-the-grid paradise, Suzi traded her backyard wildlife from bears to the birds of Atlanta, which she says “are every bit as inspiring.”

In her former Alaskan life, Suzi worked at Alaska Indian Arts, a nonprofit arts center where native carvers make totem poles and where Northwest coast art and culture are taught and shared with the public.

At Alaska Indian Arts, Suzi managed the gallery, taught workshops and found inspiration in the dedication of the traditional artists. Eventually, she began making and selling her own Alaska-inspired artwork at the gallery.

In the Fall of 2008, the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center board awarded her a solo spotlight show at the Center.

Suzi was a founding member of Haines, Alaska’s Lilliputian Puppet Theatre, where her handmade marionettes performed in outlandish sideshows at the Southeast Alaska State Fair and a yearly “Too Late for Halloween, Too Early for Christmas” show, which explored the darker side of puppetry.

Her artistic philosophy: “Color follows light and a line always knows where its going, though I never know where I’ll end up."

Currently she resides outside of Atlanta after spending ten years “outside” and off the grid.

Exhausted from a night of lucid dreams. / Lately in the predawn I am not sure what state I am in and have to map my journey back to where I am. The sand and ocean breeze, rotting leaves and old mountains, new mountains and roar of water, red rolling hills and rivers…what direction is my bed facing and what creatures are wandering in the dew outside? / The abundance of possibilities has thi…
