Artist's Description

The old rusty railroad trestle over the Suwannee River is now part of the Nature Coast Greenway Trail going from Old Town to Trenton, Florida. The old Civil-war era steamboat “The City of Hawkinsville of Tampa” has a watery grave to the immediate south of the bridge on the Dixie County side. It is labeled an historic archaeological site and is considered an advanced dive since the river visibility is extremely low and there are many protrusions and obstacles in the sunken boat. Google “The City of Hawkinsville” to see old photographs of her afloat.
