Artist's Description

An eddy created by underground springs in the riverbed of the Santa Fe River near High Springs, Florida. The Santa Fe is a fascinating river. It originates in the heart of north Florida and winds wildly towards its confluence at the Suwannee River. It goes underground for 3 miles through the karst topography (limerock and churt that is full of caverns and pits deep into the earth, in which aquifers and springs feed the rivers and wells of the locals). After its rise back to the surface, nearly 100 freshwater springs rip the earth open and create a truly wonderous phenomenon of the Fountain of Youth. This eddy is located next to the State Road 47 bridge near High Springs next to the boat ramp in the riverside park. You can see the water bursting forth from the boil if you put on your goggles and sit in the sand next to the boat ramp.
