Artist's Description

Barbed wire and wild phlox along the side of the road in rural North Florida (near Trenton).

Every spring you see a riot of phlox along roadsides and in fallow fields. Story has it that Europeans brought phlox to this part of the world centuries ago as cultivated flowers but apparently they like the Florida spring so much that they spread like wildfire and are seen everywhere now. The Gainesville Sun newspaper even prints a guide to the best county road routes that you can drive to see miles and miles of wild phlox.
