World Without End

The flowers, they always moved me,
Fresh, fragrant, alive with your love.
Bursting with spontaneity, reminiscent of time.
Shadowy perfumes left lingering in my memory.
From the first moment of our touching
You brought me life, and joy
Which cleared the clouds in my mind.
The river where we walked, some called a stream,
Dangling our feet into the icy waves of water,
We laughed, you and I, and danced a kind
Of selfish, youthful jig. Balancing on something
We could never imagine. Life, being, time.
The future that no one knew would come.
Please, don’t let this happen. We love each other.
You, me, forever, was it not meant to be, for us?
A tearing, rending, selfless mourning that
Not even God could endure. Now, a sad wandering,
In shores and shoals, tearing apart the soles of my feet
On the harsh rocks of reality. Stop. Don’t leave me
Here, lost in the shallows of my soul. Come back.

It was always you, is now, and ever shall be.
World without end. Amen.
