When You Said Forever

What did forever mean to you?
Was it a brief moment which melted away,
Or a soft sigh in the darkness of night?
Did you think that it meant the same to me?

When you said forever, I thought eternity,
An always state of endless being,
A duality of time and space which persisted
Far beyond that which we had ever known.

It was fate which brought us together
And it is fate which has rent us apart.
Forever being just another word
Not a place to find solace and comfort.

I languish now in this pool of sadness
Stuck in a frame that will not refresh.
Forever never meant the same to you and I,
But I will always love you. Forever.
