A Golden Castle

You came to me with glowing thoughts,

Your dreams laid out upon your knees.

And I, blathering fool, fell into the possibility,

Being carried about by a million potentials,

Whilst the great undoing was about to ensue.

“A golden castle, all for you”, an empty promise

Placed upon my pillow, shallow memories at rest.

Was it I who transformed the water into blood?

Or undid the glorious beauty of the throne?

When did these sagging clouds of doubt arise?

The questions swell, crowding the heart,

Gripping the throat, choking the soul.

Slowly I move, holding hope against hope,

As the golden castle quickly turns to rust.
