Drawing babies scared the heck out of me when I first started drawing children …to achieve the roundness and soft lines of a baby was truly a challenge for me.
Pencil tends to age the human figure and with a single line you can lose the infant stage…you don’t have the luxury of the soft edge as with the brush in paintings. Blending and directional motion of the pastel chalk and color pencil I found, is a must to achieve and retain the baby stage in drawings.Fingers and Toes is another one of my Little People Portraits …of the grandson of a friend.
All I can say is it takes Practice,Practice,Practice …to make the lines, shapes and edges firm but rounded so the baby stays a baby!
Dedicated to all the sweet, round, chubby faces in our lives.
