Artist's Description

I took the photograph for this painting years ago when my husband and I
and 100 other people
helped the Governor of South Dakota (at the time) round up over 2000 head of Buffalo at the Custer State Parkland Prairies in South Dakota.
This yearly event is where two separate Buffalo herds are rounded up, brought together and driven to the main holding pens.
This endeavor will take over 4 days..
Once there the entire herd will be culled, inoculated and some sold off to private organizations.
This is all an ongoing yearly attempt to preserve the Buffalo/Bison of America.

These two wranglers were a part of the professional Cowboys who were on hand to make sure all came off with out to many hitches and to see that no human or animal was injured or worse.
Every time we would stop for a break in the trek, these two guys would stand off to the side and every single time this was the pose they would strike.
It was almost comical… and so the artist and photographer in me took advantage of the opportunity to show once again the different sides of the Cowboy Way.

The entire Buffalo Drive is here in my portfolio and the original photograph is somewhere in the collection. This is also another example of why I tell my photography students to take a picture when you see a painting.

This painting is dedicated to the on going efforts to save the last herds of the American Buffalo and the Wild Horses of our Great Nation.

Acrylic painting, painted on 16" X 20" Gallery Wrapped Artist Canvas.
