In the early 70’s I saw an opportunity to use my training and experience in the medical world and further my education so I enlisted into the United States Woman’s Army Corp.
I actually took all the tests for all the branches of our military, scored high on all of them, but the WAC’s were going to pay me more for my experience and enlisted me as a Specialist 4 instead of a private.
I survived basic training and became part of the 82nd Field Hospital Unit out of Fort McCelland, Alabama.
The huge wave of wounded warriors returning from Viet Nam was overwhelming the military medical arena and Dr’s., Nurses and Technicians was in dire need.
This was the most rewarding and eye opening experience of my life.
This photograph was taken at my graduation from Basic Training and in less then 12 hours I was working in the critical care units of several VA Hospitals.Never forget the men and women who serve our country and will die to protect our Freedom.
