Artist's Description

SPILT MILK

When he has gone or been driven into the ground
by the weight of insurmountable struggle, debt, and ignorance,
who will rise before the sun, every day of their lives, to milk the cows, work the land, and produce the real food that we need to sustain and nourish ourselves?
Who would ever choose this as a way of life, with little or no reward except the silent pride at the end of a hard day’s work?
Already the farmer is an invisible man, so taken for granted, and rarely acknowledged by those who enjoy the gifts of his labour.
What does the future hold?

Only when the wine flows freely and the mining wealth abounds,
Only when real estate is beyond our reach and productive land is the currency of developers,
Only when the supermarket shelves are lined with mass produced and synthetic foods that nourish nothing but the profit margins of the corporations,
Will we realize that money can’t be eaten.

So when the last farmer fades from our view,
Who will then put the cream in your lifestyle coffee?
