Artist's Description

Inside its cocoon, does the new life form fear, or does it trust that everything will work itself out upon emergence?

Emergence can be seen on my website along with the entire Cocoon series.

Emergence is an original art piece showing a figure from inside the darkness held by a cocoon. She has vivid colors of red, turquoise and yellow spinning from her wings, one of which is extended while the other has yet to fully form. Gold drips from the sky, her white dress hangs long.

Most of the newest paintings have to do with Lupus and fighting this battle so hard. There’s what’s called a Lupus butterfly which is why that subject matter keeps coming up in my paintings. Recently I’ve wondered about the little life inside the cocoon. I wonder if the life inside comes out with courage or weariness? I watched a locust emerge one time. It took him 2 hours to get out of that dry, brown shell. Even after he got out he still had to struggle and fight to get up and fly. I watched that thing in awe. I’ll never forget how stunningly beautiful he was. He even had one wing less developed than the other. It took awhile before he could fly away. It was a beautiful moment and one that left me with a ton of questions. I hope to again witness an emergence. It’s a beautiful thing.
