Top Ten in SHELTERS Covered Bridge challenge July 12, 2014
The West Montrose Covered Bridge was designed in 1880 by John Bear and built a year later by John and his brother Benjamin. The 198 foot bridge was covered to protect the flooring and frame against the elements. Dubbed as the Kissing Bridge, it later came under the jurisdiction of Waterloo County. In 1937, the Ontario government assumed responsibility of the Guelph-Elmira Road and the West Montrose Covered Bridge. The floor and sub-structure were rebuilt and reinforced. This bridge is Ontario’s only remaining covered bridge. My Nikon D50 and 18-55mm DX lens captured this historic bridge.
To further specify where West Montrose is, it’s between Elmira and Guelph ON in CANADA
