This fence protects the fragile dunes and dune vegetation from the erosion that would be caused by foot traffic. There is color here, but it is subtle. The golden hour light from the late afternoon sun helps to bring this out. The Long Island Sound (Atlantic Ocean) is just ahead where a gull sits on one of the black rocks. On the horizon is the Long Island Ferry heading for Orient Point. Long Island is visible in the distance at the right side of the horizon.
