Young Pileated Woodpecker,dryocopus pileatus,doin what they do best.They were 3 and I feel lucky to have gotten one’s image.The woods were quite reveberating with 3 though.This one was in the Great Smoky Mountains in the Cades Cove area.

Woodpeckers are fast as darts! They are hard to photograph, but you’ve done that very well here. Wish I knew your secret; I haven’t been able to get close to many yet!

OK, now I’m jealous again. I “have” one pileated, but the light was too low to use a fast enough shutter to “stop” his head while he was banging the tree. First pileated I ever saw was a fleeting glimpse of one in Cades Cove many years ago. Maybe this is a great-great-great-grandchild :-). Congratulations on a great shot.
