Things can change if you make it so...

So interminable was that night
That a life time later
I fumble around
For words to express my fright.
You promised
To love and protect.
But grog’s poison with a dash of rage
I was your target
For the vent.
Hair grows back and bruises fade.
But no matter how I scrub my mind
I can not cleanse this tortured thought
… what if
I had not said this
Or not done that… Would you have let me be?
And instead
Slept the Stupor Of the Drunk.

This is the catch-cry of all battered women
This self-blame.
Stand up
Be not embarrassed.
And if you judge
Shame!

Now say ENOUGH
Walk away
Whilst there is still breath to speak.
And believe there is a deserved life
That awaits
Just for you.

Things can change if you make it so...
