Self-banishment

It was her sanctuary
A place where ideas gave way to colour, texture, light and shade
Now darkness prevails
Rags cover her delight
Like the very mirrors of herself… she is blinded
Nothing is reflected back
She is the house where death has visited
…
Time and again she has vacillated
Her very core flayed
Her skin stretched beyond any reckoning
The viper awakened sits coiled around her heart ready to strike
Her blood
Drains to pool at her feet
Ice cold
Her breath vapourises
The heals of her hands press into her eye sockets hoping to see stars
But remain black holes that threaten her soul
A constant buzzing
That she uselessly swipes away; expands her head
Precariously it sits thrashing side to side.
A wounded sound of an animal dying escapes from her parched lips
She stands helpless, naked blank
Dread keeps the bar across the door
The floorboards splinter
A roiling, gout of fear rises up
Making her very ability to remain
Impossible
Turning
She runs in the wake
That threatens to overtake her
