Artist's Description

The golden eagle has always been one of my totem creatures, and this came simply from a need to celebrate the profile of this spectacular animal in detail. I have no idea why I wanted to twin them, as such. Like so many ideas that come to me in art, I cannot actually fathom them, just simply follow what comes through and await results.

Working from a photograph, I worked, feather for feather on one side, reversing the process on the other to reflect and get some semblance of symmetry on the other. The process was almost painful, and I thought my eyes would turn back to front to duplicate the patterns of the bird onto its mirror image! For me, the unexpected twist was the whole pattern that was created when the two heads and breasts met and flowed into each other.
