Invisible Lover

Oft’ have I spoken your name into the softness of my pillows,
Whispered lovers promises into the darkness of the night.
Your name is music to my ears, an angel’s gift to my heart,
Alas, as the devilish Gods would have it, you do not know my face.
Oft’ I have said things to another that I long to say to you,
Mouthed your name to the moon when I should be moaning his.
I have compared you to a summers day, changed your name,
And dreamed of you; Heaven and Hell could not dissuade me,
For as my heart beats, my heart beats with love in time with yours.
Your face is a picture of perfection; proof there is good in this world,
But alas, my love, you shall never see me to think the same of.
And should one day you find me, handsome prince, my lord,
Should the powers above unite our fates finally, as they surely must,
I will be here, and our fairytale will finally have a happy ending.
