Artist's Description

Autumn officially turns to winter next Wednesday, on the shortest day of the year. It therefore seemed the right time to submit something else suitably autumnal from my recent trip to the U.S. and my first visit to Washington D.C. And how could I go without shooting the Washington Monument?

As anyone who’s been to D.C. will realise, the Monument is the tallest structure in the District (and it’ll probably stay that way, as the local zoning laws are pretty strict!) and when it was built it was the tallest memorial in the world. As it’s just a big white obelisk, though, it can be a bit of a challenge to photograph, so I wanted to seek out some of the last remaining autumn foliage to set off against it.

Here’s what I found.
