Artist's Description

This male Blue-winged Teal (Anas discors) was one of many species of birds to spend the summer in a pond located in the middle of a housing development. The pond, complete with fountain, is a holding area for storm runoff; a practice that is becoming more and more popular. These ponds are being designed with a wide variety of habitats and attract the likes of herons, grebes, ducks, gulls, blackbirds, marsh birds, and warblers, just to name a few. They also attract people, providing an opportunity for recreation and education.
