Artist's Description

A Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) glides into the wind on final approach to its perch. The largest of the Buteos in this area, they are regularly sighted in a branch, half way up a tree, searching an adjoining field for the slightest signs of movement. These raptors have a central lens in their eyes that act like binoculars, magnifying their direct vision 10 fold over their periferal vision. They are the picture of beauty and grace, and a finely tuned hunting machine.
