Deaths hollow victory

Vivid images flash before my eye of what could be
suffering with little hope, life’s true tragedy.
Tears have built up and threaten to spill.
My soul weighs down with sorrow, awaiting it’s fill
such dreams have formulated
As if my death has been planned and dated
behind my back the dark one smirks,
as around me death doth lurk.
Around ever corner, buried within the cracks,
he waits in silence, as the odds against me stack.
Clumsy action with decaying age
one slip can be the entrance to his cage
but he doesn’t know me as well as I know Him.
Though my future may look forsaken and dim,
it is he who will pick me from death’s bony fingers.
Death is not the only one who lingers
Hope presents itself in a subtle way,
sneaking past deaths taunting ways of play.
Tear away the fear of the unknown,
show the side never shown,
one of happiness and smiles beyond tears,
one that surpasses that which appears in mirrors.
Goodness in what counts.
Death, with his cruel pain can never pounce.
