Old Love Dies Hard

It’s like that sinking feeling of missing a stair,
your stomach meeting your heart in your chest.
Knowing you’ve lost something
Something so important to you
That should have stayed with you forever.
Not like your mom or dad
Like your soul, the closest to a living twin.
To find out that one dying flaw, that one thing you couldn’t be.
Seeing the happiness in others,
Their relationship flourishing while yours deteriorates.
Wishing for nothing more then to be held by someone
And be loved in the way you dreamed about since you were an infant
Hear about the other.
The other one that replaced you, that does everything you couldn’t
Seeing his smile and its not with you in mind.
Spending so much time together has brought back everything
Those moments I never want to forget,
and cannot live without.

Your friendship will never die
You’ll always be together some how.
But it’ll never be enough
Paint that face on dear one
And pretend that you’re happy for him
Hide that bitter distain that has required no provoking
for her
that grew ever since you heard
You smiled right in his face, with congrats all through your eyes
But in your heart you burned failure
You’ve truly lost the battle,
that you entered with naïve maturity.
Die with honor and without regret
You did all you could little girl,
But he was never for you.
So stand up and take the hit
and close your eyes forever.
