Artist's Description

Taken at Charmouth (UK), also known as the Jurassic coast.

As featured in Advanced Photographer (issue 60 – Aug ‘15).
From the editorial: "Creating a peaceful and serene coastal image often means adapting your composition from the methods you’d normally use in a landscape. Strong foreground interest becomes less important and you’ll often have more success relying on central compositions, simpler shapes and subdued colours. Here, Steve noticed the ‘s’ shape on the shoreline, which anchors the shot, and decided to smooth the water with a long exposure of 70 seconds, which was helped along with a 10 stop ND filter and shooting at 8pm. Shooting late in the day shortly after the sunset had faded also gave rise to the simple, pastel colours. Using his Pentax K-7 with 12-24mm f/4, he deliberately placed the horizon in the centre of the frame, so that the eye is relaxed and settles in the middle."
I’d also add this is a layer picture of land, sea and air and also stillness at the bottom and motion at the top.
