Artist's Description

The Westland Wasp was the first helicopter in the world designed specifically to operate from the decks of frigates. Introduced in the 1960’s it served through to the 1980’s when it was replaced by the Westland Lynx. This Wasp is in the colours of a Wasp that served on the ice patrol vessel HMS Endurance and during the battle for the Falklands took part in the attack on the Argentinian submarine Santa Fe, which was later abandoned by her crew.
