Artist's Description

In fall, you can get some really nice brush color along the lower basin lakes at Mammoth Mountain. Here at Lake Mary you can see the beautiful colors surrounding the water and the great mountainscape beyond it. The peeks are known as Crystal Crag and actually can be seen at Lake George, Lake Mamie, and also Twin Lakes. All four of these lakes are very close together and worth the travel! Photo taken at Mammoth Mountain, California.

Lake Mary is approximately 9,000 feet in elevation and is the largest of the lakes in the basin. At the upper end of the lake is Coldwater Creek. This is where the John Muir Duck Lake trailhead is and can be hiked to several lakes in the area.

I happen to think Lake Mary is the most colorful of all the lower basin lakes with brilliant reds and oranges around the mountain and interesting foliage in the water.
