the High Dike (de Hoge Dijk) – collection
Amsterdam-Abcoude, the Netherlands
Young Jackdaw (Wikipedia) just out of the nest, still a bit sun drunk and not yet able to fly…
Isn’t the lavender colour of it’s eyes remarkable ?! :D
Photo made in the barnyard at ‘Zon Alom’ – centre of the Nature Association “de Ruige Hof” , an organisation that works for the preservation of two natural area’s in Amsterdam South East: the “Hoge Dijk” (High Dike) and the “Riethoek” (Reed Corner) .
There are tens of bird houses for Jackdaws in the trees right near to the house, and there is a whole colony nesting there :)
The “High Dike” (de Hoge Dijk)
is a natural area in the South of Amsterdam SouthEast, adjacent to Abcoude ( Google maps )
There are large water parts and lots of reed lands and low bushes, and wooded area’s.
Just like the Reed Corner (de Riethoek) it’s a very precious natural ecosystem close to the highly populated neighbourhoods of Amsterdam SouthEast.
