Artist's Description

There were just so many fungi that morning (Oct. 4, 2009) – in so many different shapes, colours and conditions – and I felt I had to portrait each one of them :)
Now this one was so tiny, that I even didn’t fully notice how beautiful it was, till I came home and saw the pics I made… :D . There were several of them growing on the same spot… but I saw them only once .

Earth Keepers
Because of the beauty shown in this picture:

SAVE and PROTECT our woods and natural places! = SAVE our fungi

The Netherlands has about 3500 known fungi species in the most varied biotopes. A big part of these 3500 Dutch species are scarce, and are found only sporadically or in a small specific area. Of the 2475 species of which is know enough about where they can be found, more than half (67 %) are on the Dutch Red List. This means that they either are extinguished already, or threatened or very sensitive for future changes in their environments. Main threats are fertilisation, and the biotopes becoming more acid and more dry. Preservation of natural area’s like woods and heather is essential for the preservation of the Dutch myco flora.
