This image was originally done for Illutration Friday almost two years ago, but at the time I didn’t have a scanner large enough so I had to post it from a photograph. It’s been hanging on the wall in my studio ever since so this seemed as good a time as any to scan it in!

This quick drawing is from a photo of Samson the baby African elephant and his mother Felix shortly after he was born in spring of 2008 at the Maryland Zoo. Samson’s 2nd birthday is this weekend! We’d hoped to go see him when the zoo opened this past weekend but the continuous rain kept us away…
