Artist's Description

One night in June 2007, from my (open) bedroom window…manual focus, no monopod as I could’nt be bothered fetching it, half asleep, hand held, sometime after 1am, (the stupid smoke alarm beeped to tell me it’s battery was dying & woke me mid-dream). I grumpily changed the battery. Just as I prepared to rejoin my dreams I glanced out my window & noticed this creamy coloured satellite low on the horizon by some treetops…

Ah, sweet serendipity!

Got the camera & lensed up. Focussed slightly softly on the foreground tree to allow more lunar features to show up in the background. No post production colour adjustment, shot as seen here. …well, that’s my story & I’m sticking to it.

A little info on the "real" River of Styx…

The Sumerians believed that “there was a ‘man-devouring’ river which had to be crossed by the dead as well as a boatman who ferried the dead across to their destination.” (Samuel Noah Kramer, “The Sumerians” pg. 133 © 1963 by the University of Chicago).

I don’t have a date for this myth, but I do know it predates the creation of man and the flood myths.
