Artist's Description

This is a powerful image for me personally. My wife—who passed away way too young 11 years ago—and I were exploring the highlands of Mexico near Cuetzalen. We were traveling backroads and exploring paths less traveled. In a small pueblo, we came across this lady carrying a hand-made basket filled with flowers to sell. She was barefoot, humble and gentle of heart and soul. I took this photograph—actually a series—and then we approached her and purchased some flowers. Flowers are good to have, no matter the day, the night, the hour. I hope that one day humanity will carry flowers instead of weapons. Far fetched but dreams always preceed the goal.
A side note on this photo: it was taken with a slide and when I received my images back from processing, most were soiled as a result from improper processing. I tossed them. Few were salvagable…this being one. Little did I know that one day I could have salvaged all of them through Photoshop.
