Thick sheets of white
Lay before me
Waiting to be burst through
Or incinerated
In purifying flames
Singeing off all the blemishes
The river is burning

With no flames to speak of
Only thick billows of smoke
Rising from her depths
A chapel pierces the haze
Serving as kindling
To stroke the fire
That warms the rain drenched day

Scarlet women line the streets
Dance to the forbidden song
Evoking the spirits to their aid
Their souls reconstructed
Welded back together
In the flames
Reconciling the division
Inserted into their bodies
By the priesthood—“whore”
Burned into their chests

The holy men
Watch from their windows
In the church—feeling
A little too much
The spirit rains down
Into the women
Like the fire they circle
They sing blasphemies
Loudly, crying for freedom
For passion

The priests clutch
Their crosses
Stroking them as they
Long to stroke the women
Quietly—at first—the priests
Call their names,
Burn them”

My heart, too, hears
The siren song
And burns inside me
I hide in the church
Cloaking myself
In darkness
Fearing the new fire
Will be uncovered
And I too will be thrust
Into the flame

The priests scramble
“An uprising will start
If these women are left
Alive”—yes, that’s the truth
They live while we—
Pretend, imitate what we ought
In the sanctuary

As the clergy plots
Fire burns in my eyes
I slip past quiet—
As a woman ought
Lock them in
Join the light
In a red haze
I take my flame
Set it to the church
Watch it glow and crackle

A sly grin
Creeps across my face
As the men scream
Boldly I walk back
Into the church
The woman is now—Savior
I’ve released them
To the wolves
The women glare
Bearing sharp canines

Set to ravage
They deserve to be devastated
But I cannot allow it
Tornado winds carry me
Above the fire
My voice is strong and clear
“In destruction
We become what we fight
The beast can be defeated
Without becoming like him”

Thick sheets of white
Rising all around me
From the purifying flame
Singeing off all the blemishes
Of a fractured religion
Souls are burning
With no flames to speak of

Thick billows of smoke
Stir in the depths
Dragons and witches awaken
Warming the rain drenched day
Forcing the heavens to open
And the angels
To sing

Artist's Description

This is rather long and I don’t entirely like the way some of the pieces fit together but I’m not sure yet how to edit it properly.
