Artist's Description

Fancy some 15th-century Latin lettering?

This design, which features a decorative initial and Latin text, is a detail from the first printed edition of Euclid, the ‘father of geometry’. It is considered the second-most published book after the Bible, with more than 1000 editions issued.

The elements of geometry (RARESF 093 C825E) is a compilation of early Greek mathematical knowledge published in 1482 in Venice, and held in the State Library Victoria Rare Books collection.
